VOLUNTEER-INVOLVING ORGANISATIONS IN DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY
There are over 350 organisations registered with us, who are looking for volunteers to fill nearly 1000 opportunities. The opportunities range from DIY to driving, conservation to counselling, and advocacy to adult education. Most organisations are charities that depend on volunteers for their existence and are always looking for new volunteers to help them with their work. The following gives just an idea of what is available:
Advice, Training and Support for OrganisationsVolunteer Action can offer advice, support and help to develop your Volunteer Policy. We also offer information and updates on appropriate policies and practices whilst promoting positive volunteer experiences. We offer training to all registered volunteer-involving organisations around best practice in working with and supporting volunteers, including Strategically Planning for Volunteer Involvement, Recruiting Volunteers, Support and Supervision of Volunteers, Diversity in a Volunteer Programme, Confidentiality and Boundaries, SkillCheck and many more. We also offer a range of free training workshops to registered volunteers across the region, including STEPs to Excellence, Befriender training, Elementary Food & Health (REHIS), Food Hygiene (REHIS), SkillCheck and Volunteering in Your Community (Open College Network). Training can be delivered within organisations, where appropriate, or to groups of staff and/or volunteers in local, accessible venues. If
